Supervising Engineer - Milton Keynes

Our client owns and operates low carbon and renewable energy networks in Milton Keynes and Woking, supplying district heat, cooling and electricity to large commercial and public sector customers, and approximately 1500 residential units. The business is generating assets that include nearly 10 MW of gas fired CHP and over 1.8 MW of solar PV installations

The Supervising Engineers principal purpose of the role is to ensure the energy assets are always operating safely and efficiently, down-time is minimised and energy services to customers are not interrupted.  The Supervising Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the engineering staff.

Based in Milton Keynes

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Planning of staff resources, materials and when necessary contract labour.
  • Co-ordination with the Engineering Services Manager, the Supervising Engineer will be responsible for ensuring staff are properly briefed, trained and equipped to carry out maintenance operations, and expectations regarding time and quality of workmanship are clearly communicated.
  • Provide close supervision of all maintenance and repair work by the O&M team and specialist contract labour, and ensure the quality of all work is completed to a high standard, on time and in compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Receive and approve RAMS.
  • Health & Safety
  • Managing a permanent team of electrical and mechanical engineering staff of up to 6
  • Responsibility for O&M of a city centre network (6 MW CHP).
  • Assist in the control of Budget, relevant to the maintenance and operation of the energy station and associated assets and outlying in customers’ premises.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

  • Strong understanding of Plant O&M relevant to district energy
  • Experience of CHP generation, electrical distribution and chilled water systems
  • PLC/SCADA Systems experience
  • Experience in maintenance and repair of motors, commercial pumps and valves
  • Experience working with CHP Gas Engines (Desirable)
  • Relevant Mechanical qualifications to C&G or NVQ standard.
  • Relevant apprenticeship / qualification in mechanical engineering.
  • IOSH Managing safety or similar.
  • ACoP L8 Legionella Aware / trained as duty holder.

Remuneration:

  • Salary – £40,000 - £45,000 DOE
  • 25 Days plus Bank holidays
